Cash for Clunkers Buyers Suffer Buyer's Remorse, Won't Save Fuel

I for one find great joy in owning a car that is 16 yrs. old and no car notes. The closet I come to a car note is maintenance, the dreary, costly life of an auto owner. I sing the praises of my freedom and low cost insurance and a valued safe driver. I can't help but be safe, I seldom drive, you see working from means no daily commute.
The cash for clunkers I guess was a great idea, but not for most. My eldest son and a few friends went on and on about how I should get rid of my car, trade it in, use the cash for clunkers program. "You're sinking too much money into that vehicle". Truth be told I haven't put any money into the thing since I've bought it seven years ago. Some maintenance and that's about it. She, I call her Betsy, has been very good to me.
You see I bought her from a private owner and he took oh, so wonderful care of her and she has served me well. I promised her after years of neglect that if she would see me to a certain point without giving up on me, that I would in turn take care of her. I know this may sound silly but, she did and now I have in turn started keeping my promise. I'm only on my second muffler, why you ask, because I forgot about a little thing called undercoating. Brakes, oil changes, transmission fluid changes, and I only drive about 400 miles a month at the most are nothing.
When asking my concerned friends and family which one of them were voluteering for duty, paying car notes, higher insurance premiums and higher maintenance cost it all got very quiet. You see, the cash for clunkers is only a good deal for some. I happen to like where I am. She's good to me and I now take care of her. Just had front brakes and bearing done, only after driving from St. Louis to Wichita against my mechanics advice, he thought the brake situation wasn't a good idea, I had to pick up a stranded child, mine, my baby, what we parents do for our kids. Lesson learned, Betsy still has my back.
What is your take?
